Windsor Tecumseh PC Candidate Andrew Dowie Calls on Gemma Grey-Hall to Retract Damaging Comments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Tecumseh, ON – May 27, 2022)
“Desperate times call for desperate measures” is an oft used justification for actions that should never see the light of day. Today, Windsor-Tecumseh NDP Candidate Gemma Grey-Hall resorted to desperate measures to try to bolster her election chances. Without thought, research, verification or rational pause, she first posted a questionable article with unsubstantiated suppositions regarding the potential investment of LG Chem in Windsor-Essex. Later in the day, six hours later, she repeated those same unsubstantiated suppositions in a Candidates Debate broadcast on AM 800. Not content with simply repeating damaging information, she attributed the article to the Windsor Star, not the Toronto Star and repeatedly referred to LG Chem as LG Chemical.
Since the story first broke in the Windsor Star on May 10th, Mayor Dilkens, Mayor McNamara, Premier Ford, Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli and Federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Francois-Philippe Champagne have been working to ensure that LG Chem is aware that the needed power is and will be available for any contemplated investment.
“I read the article in the Toronto Star Thursday morning and my first thought was to call Mayor McNamara and Mayor Dilkens to express my concern and offer any assistance I could” said Ontario PC Candidate Andrew Dowie. “While I thought the article was the worst kind of speculation and misinformation, it could still hamper our collaborative efforts to attract LG Chem and others to Windsor Essex.”
Invest WindsorEssex president and CEO Stephen MacKenzie perfectly encapsulates the issue in his response to the Windsor Star, in saying “To write an article like this at this point in time with outdated and inaccurate information after it has been clearly demonstrated that the issue is resolved, is purely political; Invest Windsor/Essex is apolitical, and does not appreciate having previous statements weaponized for political purposes.”
“I call on Gemma Grey-Hall and her campaign to retract her damaging comments and apologize to the voters of Windsor-Tecumseh for trying to “weaponize” previous statements purely for political purposes. The future of our region is at stake and this is no time to be trying to score political points regardless of the costs.
LG Chem’s statement on the issue was clear, as no decision has been made as yet and anything to the contrary is speculation.
